The first Saturday of May is considered “Herb Day”. It also marks the best day of the year to meet the new general manager of Ocean Park Resort, Herb Wilson! We are thrilled to have him as a member of the Oceana Resorts management team and are excited to showcase the changes he is making at the resort.
Herb began his career with Oceana Resorts as a bellman at a sister property, The Patricia Grand. He wanted to take a more interactive role and have the ability to mingle with guests as well as be outside. After that, Herb left Oceana to pursue a job in sales but realized after a few years that hospitality was in his heart. He returned to Oceana as a night manager at Carolinian Beach Resort. Herb says, “It’s fine to sell someone something but, in the end, that is forgotten in a short time. Vacation memories last a lifetime and I wanted to be a part of that.”
Herb saw the opportunity to take on a general manager role at Ocean Park Resort as a chance to show everyone what he could do! The task was a bit daunting and there was so much to learn but Herb tackled these challenges with confidence and composure. In his ten months as general manager, Herb has accomplished many things including improvements to the property, rooms, and reputation of Ocean Park. His proudest achievement was simply being able to learn so much so quickly.
He loves that vacationers can bring their beloved pets with them to Ocean Park Resort instead of having to leave them behind at home. “The stress of having to leave your dogs behind takes away from your vacation enjoyment. Being able to bring them with you really enriches the vacation experiences,” says Herb, and with the recent changes to the pet policy, it is now more affordable than ever. Herb loves the dog-friendly aspect of the property but wants it to be so much more. His vision is to make Ocean Park the Myrtle Beach destination for vacationers looking for a clean, comfortable, affordable beach vacation.
In his spare time, Herb enjoys anything car-related including attending car shows and working on his car and his friends’ vehicles. Herb also likes spending time with his four legged friends, Hershey, Shadow, and Baylee. Herb continues to enjoy the outdoors as well and you can often find him boating, participating in auto cross, and hanging out with his friends.
Be sure to take a look at our blog post detailing of the renovations going on right now at Ocean Park Resort. You can also review the improved pet fee policies on the Ocean Park Resort policies page! When you come to Ocean Park Resort in Myrtle Beach, please stop by and say hello to Herb. He would love to share his stories with you and hear about your latest outdoor or car-related adventures. Oh, and be sure to bring your furry companion! Herb loves his doggie guests!
