Looking to score some really great deals on top brand-name fashions? Or maybe you want to get your children ready for another year of school but don’t want to empty your bank account while doing it? Either way, you would be smart to plan a beach trip during the weekend of August 1-3, 2014 for South Carolina Tax Free Weekend.

During Tax Free Weekend, consumers do not pay sales tax on a huge assortment of clothing items, school supplies, and computers. Although originally started as a back-to-school shopping holiday, you may be surprised at how many different items are included in these categories. Bed sheets and linens, fishing boots, computer software, skates, gowns, printers, towels, and umbrellas are just a small taste of the hundreds of items that can be purchased tax-free during the three day weekend. Myrtle Beach’s wide variety of shopping options make it the perfect destination to take advantage of this once-a-year event.

Families and fashionistas looking for great deals on this season’s hottest trends will love the wide variety of shops at Coastal Grand Mall, two Tanger Outlet locations, plus an assortment of local boutiques at Broadway at the Beach, the shops at Barefoot Landing, and The Market Common.

For great back-to-school and back-to-college options, there are huge savings to be found on new computers at Best Buy and City Mac, as well as dorm room furnishings from Bed Bath & Beyond. And, although sporting goods are not exempt, there are still plenty of tax-free clothing and footwear to be found at the area-famous Bass Pro Shops located at the Myrtle Beach Mall.

Shoppers can take advantage of tax free weekend beginning at 12:01 AM Friday August 1 and shop through the weekend until 11:59 PM Sunday August 3, 2014. Unlike some other states, South Carolina has no minimum or maximum dollar amount limit for items to qualify, and unlimited numbers of tax exempt items may be purchased. Keep in mind, however, while there are a huge assortment of tax-exempt items to shop for, not all retail purchases may qualify. Jewelry, furniture, sunglasses, and stereo equipment are examples of products that do not apply.
