It’s no secret that South Carolina is lined with beautiful beaches that have been drawing locals and visitors to our area for years. Tucked away in the north end of North Myrtle Beach is the best of them all, Cherry Grove. Not only was Cherry Grove named Best Beach in South Carolina for the second year in a row, but now is also recognized as being one of the best beaches in the United States.
Back in Time
Cherry Grove has been a home away from home for many since the 1950’s. The small beach town received it’s name from Cherry Grove Plantation, which occupied the area in the early 1700s. Over the years, the plantation was sold and a portion of it was eventually transformed into Cherry Grove Beach. In its early years, Cherry Grove was mainly gas stations, open roads and the famous “swing-bridge”, which still stands today. Cherry Grove is joined by neighboring beach towns such as Windy Hill, Crescent Beach and Ocean Drive to collectively make the city of North Myrtle Beach.
Historic Landmark
The Cherry Grove Pier is perhaps the biggest landmark of our little beach town. Since its origination, fisherman and families have been coming to the Cherry Grove Pier to experience fantastic fishing and views of our beautiful ocean and coastline. When it comes to hurricanes, the Cherry Grove Pier is all too familiar. In 1989, our beautiful landmark was destroyed by Hurricane Hugo. It was remodeled quickly, only to be damaged again by Hurricane Floyd ten years later. After a lengthy renovation, The Cherry Grove Pier was back and better than ever with a two-story observation deck, tackle shop and restaurant.
Local Dining
Cherry Grove is now home to many restaurants that have become local favorites and visitor must-sees. The Shack is the perfect place to stop in for breakfast, lunch or dinner. This local eatery is always busy and for good reason! The Shack gives us some of the best southern cooking in town with freshly made sweet tea, homemade banana pudding, Chicken Bog and so much more. If you’re looking for somewhere to grab lunch in the middle of your beach day, head to Duffy Street Seafood. Duffy’s has multiple locations in North Myrtle Beach and will always welcome you and your sandy feet, as it is located just a short walk from the beach. Ready to change out of that bathing suit into something a little dressy? Head over to Filet’s on the Water. End your day in the sun by enjoying delicious steak, sushi and seafood at Filet’s, all while taking in the breathtaking views of the waterway.

Become one with Cherry Grove’s abundant wildlife by renting a kayak or paddleboard. Cherry Grove has many places to rent equipment, such as J & L Kayaks, Great Escapes and Kokopelli Surf Camp. Cruise through the salt marshes or explore neighboring islands.
